As mentioned in the Other Bands page on this site, in December 1987 The Shockwaves went into Cherry Studios in Croydon with legendary producer Dave Goodman (now best known for producing The Pistols - we were impressed enough that he'd worked with the Sid Presley Experience). The eight tracks recorded were intended for a split lp for Mike Spenser, but alas it never saw the light of day. They've been languishing in the vaults ever since, but just last week (July 2007) nearly 20 years after they were recorded, I received an e-mail out of the blue from a bloke called Jon Hollands who remembered seeing us at the Clarendon in Hammersmith and expressed an interest in hearing the recordings, so here they are. You may possibly be interested to know that guesting on keyboards was a certain Mr Paul Hartnoll, who at the time was playing in Noddy & The Satellites with Jon Delafons, The Shockwaves drummer/songwriter. Both of these gents went on to receive much critical acclaim in a genre a million miles from the one the Shockwaves existed in, with (respectively) Orbital and the Alabama 3. You may also be interested to know that we were all about 17 when we recorded these songs. Technical note: Although I have the original 2" 16 track master tape somewhere in the archive, the mixdown was put onto Betamax (this was apparently industry standard back in the pre-DAT era) which these days is about as much use as tits on a nun. The mp3s below were ripped from a C90 cassette that lay festering in my wife's tape collection for 20 years, hence the fidelity may not be as pristine as it could be. But what the hell, it's only trash... Technical update (Sept 2007): Following an abortive attempt to transfer the betamax master to a usable format round at Mike Spenser's house in Aug 2007 (for whatever reason it didn't work - possibly to do with knackeredness of equipment) those good folks at Golddust Studios in Bromley have successfully managed to extract the original 20 year old mixes from the Betamax, and here they are without the C90 tape hiss...
